Huib hat sein Projekt Waldberg im Deutschland der 60er Jahre am Fuße des Schwarzwaldes angesiedelt. Eine zentrale Rolle spielt die fiktive Kleinstadt Waldberg, die nahe einer wichtigen Hauptbahnlinie gelegen ist. Bemerkenswerte Details der Anlage sind die Altstadt, das Lokdepot und der kleine Hafen – bei allen Gestaltungen wurde darauf geachtet die typische Atmosphäre der 60er Jahre wiederzugeben.

Interesantes Konstruktionddetail: aufklappbares Segment in dem 1,20 Meter tiefen linken Anlagenschenkel.

The history of Waldberg goes back hundreds of years. In the small town centre there are still some old half-timbered houses. The old church is very characteristic and forms the real heart of the town. The bigger part of Waldberg was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Most buildings are from that era.

The town grew because of its favourable location within the region and the presence of the railway. Factories were founded on the edge of the town during the first decade of the 20th century. For example, near the station one can see the 'Zahnrad Fabrik Bähr' and 'H Huber - Sand, Schotter, Stein'. Both companies are important employers in Waldberg. Sand, Schotter, Stein has its own siding for the loading and unloading of products and raw materials.

The Waldberg project was set up with a midsize model railroad in mind. Fortunately, I can use a space of about 5.5 x 3 meters for my hobby. The basis of the layout is a reasonably sized station with separate tracks for goods handling and a small branch line to a harbour. The main line is connected to a hidden yard in various ways, allowing for many different routes. A section of the main line has overhead wires, what optically divides the big loop into two different lines.
